Maynardville, TN - Norton Grist Mill located within Big Ridge State Park offers insight into Appalachian history. The mill is the park's most prominent historical feature and is located just 2-3 minute drive within the park's entrance.
Norton Grist Mill was built in 1925 by Tink McCoy and later purchased by Lewis Norton. Today the mill is mostly a replica with the original mill race and millstones remaining. Visitors cross a small creek bridge to get a close up view of the mill. Plenty of parking is available with areas that make a great place for a picnic. Visitors interested in hiking should also park in this parking lot. The trails are located to the right just past the stop sign. Entrance is to the left.
Bring plenty of sun protection. This area is mostly open except the trees that create a cool shade over the mill.
